This painting depicts a pregnant woman on a ship sailing forward, as she looks onward to the future. I used many bright colors to depict the light and hope that one feels when seeing a newborn child entering the world for the first time. I hope that the light that I felt while creating this work, will inspire the viewer.

Hello! My name is Leslie Jean Porter and I am an artist working in Southern California. Throughout my life I have expressed myself through a variety of media, including film, photography and costume, but my current passion is painting. After graduating from Bard College in New York, I began a whirlwind career across Europe. I worked with everyone from fashion designer Louis Feraud to renowned indie film director Robert Altman. In 1994, I was named Head of Acquisitions for Ciby 2000, a major film production company in France.
